Christmas 2010
The decorations are up, the turkey has been bought and I am more
excited than a three year old. It might be uncool but I love
Christmas. Presents, family, eating to much and call outs. We don't
get many but the ones we have had over the years have been a great
giggle. A particular favourite was a none working gas oven with a
family waiting for their christams lunch. The problem was that the
wife was worn out and had had a sherry too many and had forgotten how
to light it ! Another year we got called to a care home where a member
of staff had managed to make a toilet fall off the wall. Lots of water
and it made me late for my lunch.
My top three hints 1. even if your away keep the heating on low. 2.
Turn your outside taps off. 3. Keep a number of a reliable plumber
handy.
I wish you and your family a peaceful and happy christmas.

Money, money, money, it is really strange that the banks are trying to say goodbye to our cheques. I rather like them, they are simple and they do not cost me or the customer too much to process. What are we going to do? We did flirt with taking credit cards but they only seem to benefit the banks.
Anyway, this week we have had rather good fun trying to get a customers toilet to flush properly. The non graphic story is that they needed their septic tank emptying. We discovered this when we ventured into the garden. It had made their grass very green. A visit from the pump lorry and a good roding should mean that as long as they remember to get it emptied it shouldn’t cause them any more problems. Hopefully something less pungent next week……

Plumbers Diary
English Summer Time here at last! Not many boiler repairs needed but we are busy at the moment fitting a new bathroom for a customer, which includes a very nice shower. We are trying to save water as a country but when it comes to showers we really want loads of water spraying us. While we were there we did move the customers outside tap this saved her husband from dragging 100 yards of hose all over her flowers. When you fit an outside tap you need to have a means of turning it off from inside the house for the winter and a device to stop anything coming back up the hose and into the water supply. We have also been fitting a lot of water filter taps. Fresh water from your sink much nicer than warm water from a grubby jug.

This is a diary that we have started putting in a local magazine Town and Village.
Plumbers Diary
The strange thing about our work is that jobs often come in threes. The first call on Monday was from a nice man who has a Combi Boiler that keeps stopping. After having a really good look at the system and a nice cup of coffee (more of this latter) it is obvious that the boiler is loosing pressure The first thing is to look for leaks none!.The boiler itself is not holding pressure, anew pressure vessel and the system is as good as new.
Later in the week a new customer rings about no flow from her combination boiler. After a good look and a good chat which sometimes is far more important it seems that they have also had a lose of pressure but have been refilling the boiler for the last year. This is bad. Fresh water every day in their system has introduced lots of SCALE and other problems. Answers- clean the old boiler or fit a new one. Luckily the old boiler was old by modern standards and so will soon be replaced.
Leaks come in all shapes and sizes. Mrs J. discovered that when she pulled her plug out off her kitchen sink her floor flooded. After a close look and wet knees we found that the waste pipework under her sink had fallen apart. Some new pipes and glue had it better than new.
What awaits next week…..

Impossible stopcock in three legged cross
This is a stopcock that nobody is ever going to reach. We had to take the toilet out to replace it and then we fitted a Water Switch on the worktop above. So now the water goes off at a push of a switch.
