Monarch Water Softener

Went out to service this machine. In good condition unfortunately the customer had never had a manual or any instructions so the unit had never been set correctly. We set it up gave it a service a now its working a treat. And using less salt

Water Filters on coffee machines

We use the wonderful everpure water filters to protect coffee machines. This unit uses two filters to protect  a cappacinno machine, a filter machine and a hot water machine. We also have a great new device that measures the water so that you only change the water when necessary. Give us a call.

Softi in the Basement

Took out another leaking MC250 and replaced it with our block salt soft seen here with a nice pile of salt. Even the hoses supplying the old MC250 leaked. Nice

Permutit Water Softener

We have seen alot of these recently. They are starting to over fill with water. We took this one a part as the customer had had enough of ' an unreliable softener'. We found broken valve springs, a cracked plate and worn out seals. No worth repairing. What a shame

Mr Foxy

I met this little fox by my van on a job. He was sunning himself.

Guess what pumps do not like hard water

Here is a 18 month pump that has seized up, a combination of a poor installation and dorsets hard water has let to its death. The new pump should last longer now it is plumbed in correctly with soft water.

A tight squeeze

This job required us to knock a hole in a wall
and then crawl through the dark and cobwebs under a bathroom
we then diverted the in coming water main and while we were there we discovered why the lady's shower didn't drain.
as you can see the drain runs up hill which is never good.
So we cut the pipe cleaned it out and put on a new fitting, a quick test showed that the problem had gone.

christmas diary

It is nearly Christmas, I thought for once I ought to talk about water softeners, rather than waffling on about biscuits, dogs and roundabouts (they don't seem to be in much of a rush do they?). Right I must concentrate.

A water softener is an appliance that normally fits under your sink and removes all of the calcium which makes our water hard in Dorset. Once you get rid of the calcium your appliances stay clean and last longer.  Hot water pipes de-scale and so run more efficiently.  (Did you know that a couple of year's worth of scale in your cylinder can mean you need to use 25% more energy?) plus you can start using half the amount of soaps etc. Did I tell you how much money you could save and how clean your bathroom will be?

All water softeners then use salt to clean themselves once they are full of that nasty scale.  Our water softeners are so easy that all you need to do is keep them topped up with salt (which we can supply) and they just keep working. We have models for everyone from small homes to large hotels and they all come with our brilliant and reliable installation and service.

Great, I managed it!  Must go, I have presents to buy, choir practice and 'all that jazz'. So whatever your persuasion, I wish you and your family a very happy and peaceful Christmas and a Happy New Year.

october/nov diary

October diary.
I hate to say but I feel Christmas is in the air. Pretty weird as I have only just taken my summer holiday. We took it late as we were so busy. Anyway lots to look forward to before then, I am a bit old fashioned and I rather like autumn especially harvest festival or Michaelmas. This is the celebration of nature and the success of the harvest.  Do you remember singing at school 'We plough the fields and scatter'? I do. After that it's Halloween, quite good fun I like to think of it as All  Souls Night. Next firework night. We get busy and let off fireworks for a local charity, then we are on the homeward straight for Christmas, lots of parties and choir rehearsals.
It sounds tiring but I like it and it makes the year go by. What's this got to do with plumbing? Not a lot but when your doing the washing up at Christmas you will really appreciate how easy it is to clean your plates and pans with soft water and although diamonds are nice, I am sure that eventually your wife will understand why you bought her a softener and you will love the savings on your household bills.

Diary September

Diary September

What is a recession? Most good tradesmen I know are busy, money rolls in and life goes on, but there is signs of recession, I see it every week.
Biscuits and cakes seem to becoming rarer is this a sign of money being short, but they are so important part of keeping the great british workman happy and efficient. Tradesmen often miss breakfast and then eat sandwiches at lunch time with flask tea and coffee so You can see then customer that you can be angels in disguise.
One particular angle mrs w. , The wife, a former customer bagged her man with the aid of good coffee and home made cake.
Since then she has kept up the good cakes and coffee as my waist now shows. One discovery that I have made over the years is that tea and coffee taste a lot better with soft water. Once you remove the scale the drinks take fresher and stronger plus you don,t get a scum on top of the drink. Another real benefit is that the tea and coffee pot are easy to clean, no stains, which keeps mrs w happy. You can bet that all the posh coffee shops remove scale from their water before they put it through there cappuccino machines, in fact we sell them the filters so yes they do.
Give me a call I,ll supply the soft water, you get out the biscuits and I can show you why soft water is brilliant.

Sptember Diary

Summers here, the children are out of school and the roads are blocked. I am not even going to mention the fiasco that is Canford Bottom Roundabout, what are the planners thinking. So as I site in my van in the queue I contemplate that summers a time to take stock and kick back, yeah right not us. We are busier than ever and because our water softeners and filters have been selling beyond our expectations we have decided that, that part of the business needs its own identity. Drum Roll.
Welcome Dorset Water Softeners- the home of water softeners on the South Coast. Sales and servicing plus salt sales and delivery.

Don’t panic homefixers will still be going doing gas work etc but we though it would be nice to have a company name that shouts water softeners. As you can imagine we are really excited and we even have a new website. www.dorsetwatersofteners.com. We would love you to visit it and email us if you find any spelling mistakes, plus there is a special prize if you are the first softener owner to fill in our online form. ( 6 free bags of salt and a softener health check)
So I hope you enjoy your holidays, we will think of you as we work under the sinks of Dorset.

We publish theese in the Town and Village Magazine in Ferndown

Even better news not only have we rebranded to Dorset Water Softeners.

but we have a new range of softeners.
Hello Softi.
As with our previous unit DualFlo, softi is made for us by Harveys Water Softeners in England. The best manufacturer and developer in the world. It is very similar to our previous model but it is exclusively ours. We have had it made and set up specifically for the water that you find in Dorset.
So the best water softener for dorset fitted by a family company that values their customers. A winning combination.

Killer dog

KILLER DOG

A few people asked me after the last article what type of dog was it that pinned me to the floor?  Well I thought you would like to see a photo.
As you can see she's very fierce.
So what has been happening in the plumbing world? Lots of customers have emptied their water butts already and have started using their outside taps, so there have been lots of repairs. We also have had a lot of boiler repairs. Now that most people have combi boilers when they stop working that's the end of the hot water. Panic! Some people have got us to put in electric showers to overcome the problem but we are not impressed. They tend to scale up really quickly unless you have one of our Water Softeners and give a pretty poor shower. Our customers with solar panels have certainly reaped the benefits and mine have been pumping away giving us more hot water than we can use. So what is my advice this month?
Beware of dogs and drink lots of water, preferably our filtered water - fitted from £149.00 with easy payments available if you desire.

commercial softeners

We had a problem in a Care home last Week. The Hot water was running very slowly. We checked the system and found that the cylinder was completely scaled up. I only put that cylinder in about 10 years ago. This is one of the few commercial buildings we work on that we haven't put a softener in.
The bill for the work and materials plus the last cylinder would have easily paid for a Softener plus they wouldn't now need a new shower pump.

a new softener in ferndown

We took out an old water damaged sink and replaced it with a rather nice FRANKE granite sink with a brushed tap.
We then fitted a Block Salt Water Softener so that there will be no more hard water in this house.

Whole cottage

This was one of our biggest projects. A large extension and a compete refurbishment. We actually took it back to a bare shell. It is now insulated to modern standards and is used as a home for special needs adults.
